Our congratulations to Randy Woods, editor of Air Cargo World, who was named last night the “Air Cargo Journalist of the Year” by the Seahorse Club, the London-based organization for journalism professionals in the freight transport, shipping and logistics sectors worldwide.
Randy won for his feature article “The Lion Roars” on Ethiopian Airlines’ cargo operations. The story was published in the February 2015 issue of Air Cargo World, but you can read it online here.
Air Cargo World is the largest-circulation magazine in the air cargo industry, and in late 2014 it was acquired by Royal Media Group, a New York information company that is also the parent of the widely respected air freight and express industry newsletter Cargo Facts. Subsequent to the acquisition, we undertook an expansive redesign and rebuilding of Air Cargo World, including putting Randy in the editor’s chair. Every aspect of the magazine was rethought and overhauled. The purpose of the redesign was to make Air Cargo World, which had frankly grown stale, an exceptional resource to the industry once again.
The rejuvenation of Air Cargo World is exemplified by Randy’s “The Lion Roars” feature. “The Lion Roars” is not just about how Ethiopian became the No. 1 air cargo carrier in Africa – it offers a unique window into how the African air cargo market has evolved and can continue to advance. Randy was able to get exceptional access to Ethiopian senior executives and key people in the African market to produce a feature that contains not just wonderful information, but is eminently readable and enjoyable.
We are proud of Randy’s efforts at Air Cargo World on “The Lion Roars,” as well as so many other articles for the magazine in 2015, and are sure that he wholeheartedly deserves the Seahorse Club Air Cargo Journalist of the Year award.
